Iran has presented the U.S. with a plan to reopen the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for conditions imposed by Tehran

Iran has presented the United States, through intermediaries, with a plan to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced on Friday on the sidelines of the annual session of the UN General Assembly.

According to the official, the strait could be reopened starting at the end of the seventh day if Washington accepts certain conditions. Araghchi said that, in this case, talks between Iran and the United States would resume.

The conditions presented by Tehran include the immediate lifting of the U.S. naval blockade imposed on Iranian ports, the release of all frozen Iranian assets, and an end to the war on all fronts, according to reports by the Iranian state media.

A White House representative told CNN that the United States is holding “positive and constructive” discussions with Iran through mediators. These are the first direct contacts of this kind between representatives of the two countries in recent months.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the most important routes for the global transport of oil and gas. Control over this strategic corridor is one of the main sources of tension between Washington and Tehran. U.S. authorities have not publicly announced whether they accept Iran’s conditions or whether there is a concrete timetable for reopening the strait.
