A TAROM co-pilot fainted at the end of a flight on the Bucharest–Amsterdam–Bucharest route, due to fatigue and possible psychological discomfort, according to the preliminary report of the Civil Aviation Accident and Incident Investigation Agency (AIAS).
The document shows that the pilot experienced difficulties during the landing phase, requiring medical intervention at Otopeni Airport. Although he initially stated that he could continue the flight, he later requested that the captain take control of the aircraft.
His condition deteriorated during the return segment, at which point the captain declared a state of emergency. After landing, the co-pilot left the aircraft without medical assistance, later being diagnosed with a lipothymic state.
The report also mentions that he indicated a lack of rest from the previous night, affected by noise and the use of a solution against mosquitoes. Following the incident, TAROM decided to avoid scheduling the two pilots in the same crew and to implement additional operational safety measures.
