Officials from South Korea and Cambodia met on Thursday to coordinate a response to online scams, following the death of a South Korean student who was allegedly trafficked and forced to work in a scam center in Cambodia.
The online scam industry in Cambodia has sparked outrage among South Koreans, who use trafficked workers from various countries to target victims worldwide. Officials estimate that approximately 200,000 people, including 1,000 South Koreans, are working in such centers.
