Eight South Korean students were detained after attempting to infiltrate an American airbase.

The incident took place in the city of Osan, located about 50 kilometers south of Seoul, when eight students attempted to enter through the main gate of the Osan airbase, being stopped by military personnel and handed over to local authorities. The protest was organized by a student organization that contests the American military presence and the blocking of a development project for a semiconductor industry hub in Gwangju, estimated at 488 billion euros.

The students are in preventive detention and have refused to cooperate with investigators. The presence of approximately 28,500 American soldiers in South Korea serves to deter aggression from North Korea, and the incident is now being investigated by South Korean authorities to determine whether the students will be charged with attempted illegal entry into a military facility.
