A Ukrainian citizen, aged 18, was arrested by police in Bucharest after attempting to take 180,000 lei from a 46-year-old woman, a victim of a fraud attempt using the 'spoofing' method. The young man, acting together with accomplices, falsely presented himself as an employee of a public institution, telling the woman that there were problems with her bank accounts. They convinced her to take out a loan of 180,000 lei, with the aim of handing the money over to a person who was supposed to come and pick it up.

The woman notified the police before following the criminals' instructions. The police intervened quickly and caught the suspect at the moment he was receiving two white envelopes from the woman, which he believed contained 180,000 lei.

The young man was detained for 24 hours, and investigators continue to investigate the case to identify other members of the group. The police warn about the risks of 'spoofing' type frauds, which aim to obtain funds through deception.
