Thousands of building, ship, property, and vehicle owners in Norway will receive a letter from the Norwegian army on Monday, informing them that their assets may be requisitioned in the event of war. This measure aims to allow the Armed Forces access to the necessary resources for the defense of the country in a conflict situation. In 2026, approximately 13,500 preparatory requisitions are expected to be issued, which will have no practical effects in peacetime but will inform owners about the possible use of their assets in case of necessity.
Major General Anders Jernberg, head of the Logistics Organization of the Armed Forces, emphasized the importance of preparing for security crises, considering that Norway is in the most serious security situation since World War II. This initiative is part of a broader effort to strengthen military and civilian preparedness, given Norway's proximity to Russia. The letters sent to owners are intended to reduce uncertainty regarding the allocation of resources in the event of a crisis or war.
