Russian cruise ship, seized by Norway at the request of Ukraine / Stakes: compensation of 4.22 billion dollars

This measure aims to enforce an arbitration ruling requiring Russia to pay approximately 4.22 billion dollars to Naftogaz for the illegal confiscation of assets at the time of the annexation of Crimea in 2014.

The seizure was ordered on August 31, 2026, by a Norwegian court to guarantee the payment of the Russian debt, as well as the associated interest and expenses, the statement specifies.

According to the ship monitoring site VesselFinder, the vessel "Professor Molceanov" is anchored in Barentsburg, a mining town. The police in Svalbard confirmed the seizure to the newspaper Aftenposten.
