A landslide occurred on the morning of Saturday in the West Bandung region, West Java, Indonesia, causing the death of at least seven people and leaving 83 people missing, according to the National Disaster Management Agency. The agency's spokesperson, Abdul Muhari, stated that by 10:30 AM, dozens of residents had been found safe, but the number of missing persons remains alarming.
Landslides are common in Indonesia, especially during the rainy season, and experts emphasize that deforestation contributes to soil instability, increasing the risk of flooding and landslides. Recently, other natural disasters, such as flash floods, have led to significant loss of life in other regions of the country. The Indonesian government has begun to take measures, revoking permits for companies involved in logging, in an attempt to protect forests and reduce the risks associated with these disasters.
