The disaster management agency in Nepal announced on Sunday a tragic toll of 734 deaths, following landslides caused by the collapse of a glacier in the Himalayas.

Another 2,498 people are reported missing, and 7,514 have been rescued, according to Reuters.

In Tibet, Chinese authorities confirmed the death of 16 people, with 546 missing, of which 261 are foreign nationals from 23 countries, mostly Nepalese.

The disaster was caused by the instability of glaciers, exacerbated by the effects of climate change.

The Chinese Foreign Minister stated that this incident represents the worst cross-border disaster between Nepal and China in recent years, and rescue operations are extremely difficult.

Over 90,000 people have been affected, according to estimates from the Red Cross.
