A strong earthquake with a magnitude of 7.7 occurred on Saturday morning in eastern Indonesia, causing the death of at least 20 people and injuring another six.

Tsunami waves of under one meter were reported, but the warning was lifted after a few hours. In the port city of Maumere, rescue teams found victims and reported two people trapped under rubble. The Nagekeo region, closest to the epicenter, was severely affected, and communications were disrupted due to landslides. Approximately 2,000 residents were evacuated, and the damage to buildings and infrastructure was significant.

The provincial governor stated that five people died in their sleep, struck by pieces of collapsed buildings. The earthquake was felt in other regions as well, and authorities continue to gather information about victims and damage. Indonesia is located in the 'Ring of Fire' of the Pacific, an area known for intense seismic activity.
