A devastating landslide occurred on Tuesday morning in Dangchang County in northwestern China, with the death toll rising to 21, according to reports from the Xinhua news agency. Rescue teams were quickly mobilized to the scene and are continuing rescue operations at this time.
In the aftermath of the disaster, the government allocated 30 million yuan (approximately 3.9 million euros) for emergency aid and reconstruction efforts. Landslides are common in China, especially during the summer when intense rainfall affects various regions. This landslide occurred in the context of severe storms that have already caused the deaths of 17 people in the south and center of the country.
President Xi Jinping has called for a total mobilization of rescue efforts, while torrential rains continue to affect areas in Guangxi and Guangdong, putting the safety of dikes and reservoirs at risk.
