Human Rights Watch (HRW) has denounced the occupation by the Israeli army of several schools in southern Lebanon, where acts of looting and destruction have been committed. The organization says these acts constitute "apparent war crimes" and seriously affect Lebanese children's right to education. HRW documented damage in at least seven schools and pointed out that some had been turned into barracks. Although Israel has admitted to operating from civilian buildings, it has promised to investigate incidents of vandalism. The war led to the destruction of more than a hundred schools, affecting access to education for tens of thousands of students.
