The Prime Minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, announced the prohibition of access to social networks for children under 15 years old. The legislation will be adopted this summer and will come into effect on January 1, 2027. Mitsotakis emphasized that Greece is thus becoming one of the first countries in the world to implement such a measure, calling on the European Union to adopt similar policies.
Australia was the first country to legislate on this issue, requiring platforms to verify users' ages and to delete minors' accounts. The measure aims to protect teenagers from addictive algorithms and the negative effects of excessive technology use. The Prime Minister sent a message to young people, explaining that the goal is not to distance them from technology, but to combat addiction. Mitsotakis assured parents that this measure will be a support tool, without replacing their presence in their children's lives.
