The United Arab Emirates has adopted a law that prohibits children under 15 years old from having accounts on social media, thus becoming the first Arab country to implement such a measure.

According to the new regulations, children who have not turned 15 cannot post, comment, or share content on social platforms. Additionally, social networks are required to deactivate the existing accounts of these users. Young people aged between 15 and 16 can activate accounts, but with restrictions, including limiting contact with unknown individuals and implementing parental control features.

The law does not accept self-declaration of age, imposing a user age verification system on social networks. Platforms have a one-year deadline to implement these measures, which also include preventing the use of methods to bypass age verification systems.
