The German authorities have decided to invest 26.5 billion euros in modernizing the armed forces, with the aim of strengthening the military potential of the country and meeting NATO commitments. Almost 19 billion euros will be directed towards equipping Bundeswehr soldiers with state-of-the-art uniforms and equipment through the FASER project, which will run until 2034. In addition, the German government has approved an additional funding of 7.5 billion euros for the acquisition of wheeled armored vehicles, essential for modernizing ground forces. This rearmament strategy aims to increase active military personnel from 280,000 to 460,000 by the year 2030. The total defense budget for 2026 is estimated at 117.2 billion euros, thus exceeding the NATO target of 2% of GDP, demonstrating Germany's commitment to European collective security.
