President Nicusor Dan said on Monday, September 14, that he would like a one-on-one meeting with his US counterpart, Donald Trump, and believes it will take place. He made the statement in an interview with Euronews Romania, amid discussions about the future of the United States’ military presence in Europe.
Asked how close he was to meeting the US president, Nicusor Dan replied: “Yes, of course we want that, and it will probably happen.”
The head of state said Romania’s main interest in its relationship with the US administration is participating in discussions about US troops in Europe. According to him, the analysis announced by the US administration is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
At the same time, Romania is seeking to attract US investment, including in the area of Mihail Kogălniceanu Air Base. Nicusor Dan said he would like these projects to be accompanied by an increase in the number of US troops in Romania, but the planned investments will continue regardless of this decision.
The president emphasized that Romania will honor its defense planning and its commitments to the United States, NATO, and bilateral partners.
