Nicuşor Dan gives CNN interview amid conflict with the Trump administration

Romanian President Nicuşor Dan gave an interview to the US network CNN at a time when the broadcaster is at the center of a conflict with President Donald Trump’s administration. The interview is due to be broadcast shortly after Trump announced that CNN, MS NOW and Politico no longer have access to the White House.

Subsequently, journalists from the three organizations were denied access to the premises. CNN, MS NOW and Politico sued the Trump administration, arguing that the measure violates the rights guaranteed by the First Amendment to the United States Constitution.

The dispute has also affected video coverage of presidential events. Major US television networks announced the suspension of pooled broadcasts for accredited media after CNN was excluded from the rotation of networks providing these broadcasts from the White House.

Nicuşor Dan’s interview is therefore being broadcast against the backdrop of tensions between the Trump administration and part of the US media. The Romanian president has recently given several interviews to the US media. On Tuesday, he spoke with SiriusXM radio about Romania’s relations with the US, NATO, Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova.
