On August 5, Hong Kong was hit by an extreme storm, with rainfall of over 350 mm, the highest since 1884. Flooding severely damaged infrastructure, including hospitals and schools, and the authorities issued a 'black' storm code. The Pearl River Delta region was also affected, with five deaths in Guangdong and risks of massive flooding. These extreme events are attributed to climate change and monsoon disruptions. Although airports canceled flights, the Hong Kong Stock Exchange remained open.
