Sales of fully electric cars in the European auto markets recorded a significant increase of 29.4% in the first quarter, reaching nearly 560,000 units, according to data from E-Mobility Europe and New Automotive.
This growth was driven by the search for alternatives to combustion engines, amid rising gasoline prices caused by the war in Iran. In March, registrations of electric vehicles increased by 51.3%, exceeding 240,000 units. The largest markets, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, and Poland, reported an increase of over 40% in electric vehicle sales. In the UK, BEV registrations rose by 12.8%, representing 22.5% of new car sales.
In Romania, 679 electric cars were registered in March, and hybrid models increased by 49%, reaching 750 units.
The segment of electrified cars grew by 27% compared to the previous year.
