A 68-year-old man died on Thursday after drowning in the sea, in the area of the Eforie Nord resort. He ignored the red flag, which prohibited swimming due to dangerous conditions.
According to initial information, the man was pulled from the water unconscious, and the lifeguards immediately began resuscitation efforts. A SMURD helicopter was dispatched to support the medical intervention. The tourist had entered the water several times, being rescued by lifeguards three times on the same day, but returned to the sea each time. On the fourth entry, he was pulled out unconscious, and the medical teams' intervention took place in front of other tourists.
The red flag had been raised on several beaches along the Romanian coastline, and tourists were warned about the dangers of the rough sea and strong currents.
