Registrations of new cars decreased by 28.2% in July 2026 compared to the same period last year, reaching 11,633 units, according to the APIA analysis. This decline highlights the vulnerability of the automotive market, with a reduction of 5.5% in the first seven months compared to 2025.

However, electrified cars continued to grow, with a share of 60% in July. Pure electric cars increased by 57%, while plug-in hybrids rose by 71%. In contrast, gasoline and diesel engines decreased significantly, by 34% and 50% respectively.

Dacia registered 3,286 cars, down by 35.6%, while Tesla led the electric segment with 1,559 units.

APIA emphasizes the need for a predictable framework to support the transition to low-emission technologies.
