Emergency teams in Asia are in a race against time following the devastating floods and landslides that occurred last week, causing the deaths of over 1,500 people. The most affected countries are Indonesia, with 883 deaths, Sri Lanka (486), Thailand (185), and Malaysia (3). Many villages in Indonesia and Sri Lanka are buried under mud, and nearly 900 people are reported missing. While recovery is progressing in Thailand and Malaysia, survivors in the affected areas are facing massive destruction. Roads are blocked, and some areas are accessible only by helicopter. Communications are affected, and access to drinking water is limited. Although aid has started to arrive, needs remain urgent, with requests for essential household equipment.
