At least 100 people have lost their lives in the state of Assam, India, due to floods and landslides caused by monsoon rains, which have affected several states of the country since the beginning of July.

Local authorities have stated that this rainfall event is one of the most severe in recent years, affecting nearly 170,000 people and forcing thousands of residents to seek refuge in emergency shelters. Over 14,000 hectares of agricultural land have been flooded, and the Health Minister, JP Nadda, emphasized the scale of the disaster, stating that "it will take time" to restore normalcy.

Scientists emphasize that climate change is contributing to the intensification of these extreme phenomena, and local authorities intend to address the issue with the federal government.
