After weeks of tensions, Denmark has agreed, in principle, that NATO must strengthen security in the Arctic, establishing an agreement following the meeting between Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. Frederiksen will also discuss with her counterpart in Greenland, announcing that NATO allies will maintain a 'permanent presence' in the region, without providing further details.

Additionally, the United States and Denmark will renegotiate the 1951 defense agreement regarding Greenland, which could extend the American military presence in the area. The President of Finland has requested that an agreement be finalized by the NATO summit in Ankara, promoting closer cooperation among the seven Arctic NATO countries. Alexander Stubb emphasized that Arctic security is a priority, not a sovereignty issue, and highlighted the need for a strong American presence in the region.
