Canada has announced that it will provide Cuba with humanitarian aid of 8 million Canadian dollars (approximately 5.85 million US dollars) to support the purchase of food, in the context of a severe energy crisis in the island nation.
The Canadian government emphasized that the funds will be distributed through the World Food Programme and UNICEF, ensuring that the aid reaches vulnerable Cubans directly. Canada's chief diplomat, Anita Anand, mentioned that Ottawa has not discussed this initiative with Washington, highlighting Canada's independence in foreign policy. Additionally, Canada is the main provider of tourists to Cuba, but the energy blockade imposed by the US has led to the suspension of flights from Canadian airlines, affecting the Cuban economy.
