Cuba suffered a major power outage yesterday, when the entire electrical grid collapsed, leaving approximately 10 million people without electricity. The outage lasted 30 hours, affecting public transport and the medical system, with tens of thousands of surgical interventions postponed.

Power supply issues are not new, with the government frequently resorting to rationing electricity. The Minister of Energy, Vicente de la O Levy, stated that authorities are working to restore power, activating emergency systems to maintain the functioning of essential services.

The energy crisis is caused by reduced fuel reserves, the precarious state of the electrical grid, and a lack of investments. Cuba produces only 40% of the necessary fuel, and external supplies have decreased. Additionally, power outages affect access to water, with residents having to wait in line to obtain water from tanker trucks.
