More than 200,000 homes were left without electricity on Friday in Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk region after Russian attacks severely damaged energy infrastructure. In the city of Dnipro, which has nearly one million residents, power supplies were cut during the morning, and electric public transport, including trams, trolleybuses and the metro, was halted.
Regional governor Oleksandr Ganja announced that electricity had been restored for most consumers, but more than 200,000 subscribers remained without power. The supplier DTEK said its teams were working to reconnect homes and essential infrastructure.
The attacks took place a day after a drone attack on Dnipro’s railway station that killed at least 15 people. Ukraine’s Air Force reported that Russian ballistic missiles and drones had been launched at several regions.
Local authorities warned residents that further strikes and prolonged outages of electricity, water and heating were possible. People were advised to stock up on water for several days and charge their batteries. Attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure frequently intensify ahead of the cold season.
