Russian attacks on energy and transport infrastructure in Ukraine, launched over the past 24 hours, have killed five people and injured at least 46. Approximately 280,000 households have been left without electricity in several regions, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on Saturday.
The Ukrainian Air Force said it had shot down 105 of the 134 drones launched by Russia overnight, including jet-powered attack drones. The drones struck 20 locations, while fragments of intercepted aircraft fell in another 10 areas.
Combined heat and power plants, electrical substations, natural gas distribution facilities, and railway infrastructure in northern, central, and eastern Ukraine were targeted. A combined heat and power plant in Kyiv and four electrical substations in the Dnipropetrovsk region were hit, while another plant in Shostka was attacked toward morning.
In the city of Dnipro and the Dnipropetrovsk region, approximately 200,000 households remain without electricity, while in the Kyiv region, another more than 80,000 are without power. The attacks also affected railway infrastructure in Dnipro and Kharkiv, as well as a natural gas distribution facility in Dnipropetrovsk.
Emergency response teams are working to mitigate the damage and restore power supplies. Zelenskyy accused Russia of deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure and called for new sanctions and support for Ukraine.
