The interim Bulgarian government, led by Prime Minister Andrei Giurov, has warned that there is a significant amount of counterfeit euro banknotes intended to be used for buying votes in the upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled for Sunday. The Ministry of Interior is handling these reports, and on Tuesday confiscated one million euros destined for a certain political party, without providing details about it.
Additionally, the police confiscated counterfeit banknotes worth 5,000 euros and 6,000 British pounds on Wednesday. Prime Minister Giurov accused the perpetrators of the scheme of trying to manipulate the votes of Bulgarian citizens and called for their cooperation to prevent such actions. Deputy Interior Minister Ivan Anchev reported 1,743 complaints regarding attempts to buy votes, nearly four times more than in the previous elections. Vote buying is a common practice in Bulgaria, a country known for its corruption.
