Tiangong Ultra, developed by the Innovation Center for Humanoid Robots in Beijing, ran 100 meters in 9.39 seconds at the World Humanoid Robot Games in Beijing, setting a new record that surpasses the performance of Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt.
In the race, Tiangong Ultra outpaced Lightning, the robot developed by smartphone manufacturer Honor, which completed the trial in 9.47 seconds. Both robots encountered difficulties near the finish line, but Tiangong Ultra significantly improved its performance compared to last year's edition, when it covered the distance in 21.50 seconds.
Lightning had previously set a time of 9.32 seconds over the 100-meter distance during a test, but before the competition, it was modified by extending its legs.
This year's edition of the World Humanoid Robot Games brought together 2,056 robots from 16 countries.
