The mayor of Tehran, Alireza Zakani, announced that the national funeral of the Iranian supreme leader Ali Khamenei, killed by Israeli-American strikes on February 28, has been postponed to the end of June or the beginning of July.
These ceremonies will take place between June 26 and July 5, during the month of Muharram in the Muslim calendar. Khamenei, who led the Islamic Republic for nearly 37 years, died at the age of 86 following the bombing of his residence in Tehran. The funeral, initially scheduled for March 4, was postponed due to the military conflict.
Iran mentioned that the ceremony will last three days and will take place in Tehran, as well as in the holy cities of Qom and Mashhad, where Khamenei will be buried. His son, Mojtaba, succeeded him but has not appeared in public due to injuries sustained from an airstrike, communicating exclusively through written messages.
