Large prayer in Tehran in memory of Ali Khamenei. Up to 20 million believers are expected at the funeral ceremonies.

A large prayer ceremony began on Sunday in Tehran, at the complex where the coffin of the former Iranian supreme leader Ali Khamenei is laid, on the second day of the national funeral attended by large crowds of believers.

The ceremony, led by Ayatollah Ja'far Sobhani, gathered a multitude of believers in the vast religious complex of the Great Mosalla. Khamenei's son, Mojtaba, has not been confirmed as present, after being injured in the attack that led to his father's death. Khamenei's coffin, covered with the Iranian flag and his black turban, was displayed to the public, and authorities expect 15-20 million participants at the ceremonies. Sunday and Monday have been declared public holidays to allow Iranians to attend. The burial will take place on Thursday in the holy city of Mashhad.
