On Wednesday evening, a 6.2 magnitude earthquake shook the west of Venezuela, with the epicenter located near Mene Grande, a sparsely populated area. Although felt in Caracas and Maracaibo, the Interior Minister stated that no major damage had been reported. Another institute reported a magnitude of 5.4, highlighting the quality of construction in the country. The earthquake was also felt in Colombia and the Caribbean islands, with no reported casualties. Venezuela has not experienced a major earthquake since 1997.
