At least 32 people have died, and another 700 have been injured in Venezuela, after two strong earthquakes, with magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5, struck the South American country on Wednesday.

Interim President Delcy Rodriguez announced the declaration of a state of emergency following these earthquakes, which led to the collapse of buildings, causing panic in the capital Caracas.

The two earthquakes were followed by 20 aftershocks, and Maiquetia International Airport was closed due to severe damage to infrastructure.

Rodriguez emphasized that information about the victims is still being updated, especially from the state of La Guaira, considered to be the most affected. Authorities continue to assess the situation and provide assistance to those affected.

The United States Geological Survey stated that the death toll could likely reach several thousand, possibly over 10,000, according to predictions.
