The Bernardine Monastery in Dubrouna, Belarus, with a history of over 400 years, was sold for approximately 11 euros, equivalent to 44 Belarusian rubles. The new owner, a dental company, intends to transform the historic building into a luxury dental clinic.
The monastery, founded in 1630 by Mikołaj Hlebowicz, has had a tumultuous history, having been burned down twice and used as a school during the Soviet period. After being put up for sale several times without success, the price was drastically reduced, reaching 42 rubles. In addition, the buyer obtained a 2700 square meter plot of land, leased for 50 years. This is not a unique situation, as many historic buildings in Belarus are sold at symbolic prices to prevent their deterioration.
