Burg-Hostel in the Medieval Citadel of Sighișoara is closing after 25 years due to a rent increase of almost nine times.

Burg-Hostel in the Medieval Citadel of Sighișoara, part of the Hostelling International network, has announced that it will close its doors due to a significant increase in rent, almost new compared to the previous value.

The President of the Interethnic Educational Center for Youth Sighișoara, Volker Reiter, emphasized that such an increase could not be absorbed by a structure of the social economy without compromising the values and mission of the hostel. Burg-Hostel, which has operated for 25 years, was not just a place to stay, but a space dedicated to intercultural meetings and promoting mutual respect.

Reiter mentioned that the hostel contributed to the development of the hostel system in Romania and carried out numerous international projects. Its closure comes just a few days before the ProEtnica Intercultural Festival, where Burg-Hostel was an important logistical center. Reiter reaffirmed the hostel's commitment to openness and solidarity, fundamental values of its activity.
