Chapter 1: The Greatest Romanian Athlete in History
According to The National Barometer of Romanian Sports, conducted by Inscop Research at the request of Fanatik.ro, almost half of Romanians consider Nadia Comăneci to be the greatest Romanian athlete in history.
Methodology:
The National Barometer of Romanian Sports Fanatik – INSCOP Research was conducted by INSCOP Research at the request of the website Fanatik.ro
The data was collected between October 10-22, 2025. Research method: interview via questionnaire. The data was collected using the CATI method (telephone interviews), with a simple stratified sample volume of 1500 people. The sample is representative for significant socio-demographic categories (gender, age, occupation) for the non-institutionalized population of Romania, aged 18 and over. The maximum allowable error of the data is ± 2.5%, at a confidence level of 95%.
The Greatest Romanian Athlete in History
When asked who was/is the greatest Romanian athlete in history, 47.9% of respondents choose Nadia Comăneci, 20% choose Gheorghe Hagi, 6.8% choose Simona Halep, 6.8% choose Ivan Patzaichin, 5.2% choose David Popovici, 4.6% choose Ilie Năstase, 0.9% choose Cristina Neagu, and 0.9% choose Elisabeta Lipă. 2% choose someone else, and 4.8% do not know or do not respond.
It is considered that Nadia Comăneci is the greatest Romanian athlete in history especially by: women, people over 45 years old, those with higher education.
It is believed that the greatest Romanian athlete in history is Gheorghe Hagi especially by: people between 18 and 44 years old, those with primary education.
Young people under 30 believe in a higher proportion than the rest of the population that Simona Halep is the greatest Romanian athlete in history.
Especially men believe that Ivan Patzaichin is the greatest Romanian athlete in history.
