Hurricane Melissa has caused devastating damage in the Caribbean, with a confirmed number of 49 deaths, mostly in Jamaica, where the storm hit as a Category 5 hurricane. The Ministry of Information in Jamaica reported 19 fatalities, and authorities continue search and rescue operations. Melissa left hundreds of thousands without electricity, destroyed buildings, and caused severe flooding. In Haiti, where the storm brought torrential rains, 25 deaths have been recorded. Although Melissa also affected Cuba, no deaths have been reported, but 735,000 people have been evacuated. Currently, the hurricane is heading towards Bermuda, where storm conditions are expected. Authorities in Jamaica and Cuba are working to assess the damage and ensure humanitarian aid.
