The interim president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, announced that the authorities will make every effort to save as many lives as possible after the most severe earthquakes in the last century, which resulted in 920 deaths and nearly 3,000 injuries.

Public dissatisfaction with the slow government response is growing, in the context where over 50,000 people are reported missing. The two earthquakes, with magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5, occurred near the city of Morón, causing massive destruction in the north of the country. The government has declared a state of emergency and created a reconstruction fund of 200 million dollars.

International aid has begun to arrive, including from the United States, which has temporarily suspended some sanctions to facilitate humanitarian assistance. The earthquakes have led to power outages and disruptions in communications, and public transport has been suspended.
