This week, the United States will be affected by a record heat wave, which could break local maximum temperature records. The American weather services (NWS) have warned that two-thirds of the eastern part of the country will experience temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius, with a combination of high humidity that will make the perceived temperature reach between 40 and 46 degrees Celsius. This heat wave will particularly affect the east coast, including major cities like New York and Washington, with significant risks of heat-related illnesses, especially for vulnerable individuals. The heatwave will extend into the weekend, coinciding with the national celebrations of July 4th, which could disrupt the 250th anniversary independence festivities. Additionally, the World Cup, held in the USA, Canada, and Mexico, could be affected, considering that many stadiums are outdoors. Meteorologists emphasize that the intensification of heat waves is linked to climate change caused by the burning of fossil fuels.
