The National Environmental Guard (GNM) announced that it will start detailed inspections in Bucharest and Ilfov, aiming to monitor activities that affect air quality, especially with the approach of the cold season. These inspections will target heating plants, local authorities, economic agents, and construction sites, considering that traffic and residential heating are the main sources of pollution.
The General Commissioner of GNM, Andrei Corlan, emphasized the necessity of complying with environmental standards, such as installing safety nets and cleaning construction sites, to prevent the normalization of pollution. Additionally, GNM highlighted the high pollution risks in Bucharest, with values exceeding two or three times the allowed limits. The control action will begin on October 22, 2025, and will involve approximately 30 commissioners, using technology acquired through PNRR to identify illegal activities. In the end, GNM will publish a report with useful data for authorities, emphasizing the importance of adopting an integrated air quality plan.
