Apa Nova disputes the conclusions and sanctions imposed by the National Environmental Guard following the inspection carried out at the Glina Wastewater Treatment Plant, after more than 1,000 complaints regarding the unpleasant odors experienced in Bucharest and Ilfov on August 17 and 18.

The Environmental Guard’s inspection took place from August 19 to 21, and the report was published on September 3. The company maintains that the plant is operated in accordance with the applicable legislation and procedures and considers the findings concerning the source of the odor to be technically unfounded.

Apa Nova states that the doors of the dewatering hall are opened temporarily only to remove sludge containers, while the foul air is captured and treated through a ventilation and deodorization system. The company also says that the commissioners’ observations were not supported by specific measurements and that analyses carried out by accredited laboratories did not indicate any exceedances of the legal limits.

According to the operator, the results of the analyses carried out at the plant and in the Dâmbovița River were well below the applicable European limits. Apa Nova will challenge the contravention report in court and will provide the authorities with the available technical data.
