The Galați Environmental Guard fined the companies carrying out the modernization works on the Danube Promenade 100,000 lei, following an unannounced inspection conducted on October 6–7. The commissioners checked compliance with environmental conditions and the implementation of measures established during previous inspections.
During the inspections, irregularities were identified regarding the organization of the construction site, the storage of materials, the delimitation of work areas, and compliance with certain conditions set out in the Environmental Agreement. The Environmental Guard ordered measures to remedy the deficiencies and to continue the works under the conditions established by the regulatory documents. The competent environmental protection authority will be notified of the non-compliances.
The inspection also addressed the situation of the trees on the Danube Promenade. The project’s initial documentation provided for the removal of approximately 900 trees. Following the inventory and reassessment previously ordered, solutions were found to preserve 101 trees on the site and relocate another 75 within the promenade.
