The Prefect of the Capital, Andrei Nistor, raised suspicions on Tuesday evening regarding the way the incidents between participants in the shepherds’ protest and gendarmes, held in Victory Square, unfolded. The official stated that footage filmed by a drone would indicate a coordinated movement of a significant part of the crowd toward the areas where incidents were breaking out.

Nistor specified that he followed the events from the Gendarmerie command center, but left before the protest ended. According to him, the aerial footage provided a different perspective from that at ground level. “When there was a small incident in one place, half (!) of the square moved there,” the prefect wrote on Facebook.

The official raised two hypotheses: either the shepherds were “sabotaged by hooligans,” or the protest was taken over by people who had organized in advance and allegedly misled the participants. Nistor argued that such mobilization would not be characteristic of people who had come to protest peacefully, but he did not publicly present additional evidence regarding the existence of coordination or the identity of those involved.

The prefect’s message comes after clashes between protesters and law enforcement, while the footage analyzed by the authorities could help clarify how the incidents unfolded.
