At least eight people, including children, have died, while another 15 were injured after a six-story building collapsed on Wednesday in the Tal al-Hawa area of Gaza. More than 60 people are still missing, and rescue teams are searching for survivors among the rubble.
The building collapsed onto other residential spaces and tents located nearby. The property was also inhabited by people displaced by the war with Israel, which complicated the intervention and search operations.
Mahmoud Basal, spokesperson for Gaza’s Civil Defense, announced that the bodies of eight people and 15 injured individuals had been recovered from the ruins. The toll is provisional and may change as rescuers reach areas covered by debris.
According to the Civil Defense, the building had previously been damaged by Israeli strikes and had structural problems.
