The Capital City Hall has decided to borrow 100 million lei from the Treasury to pay the outstanding bills to Termoenergetica, the municipal company responsible for providing heating. The announcement was made by interim mayor Stelian Bujduveanu, who convened a meeting of the General Council to discuss this loan. The money will be used to pay suppliers, such as Romgaz and Elcen, and will come following a government measure that allows municipalities to access loans for heating, with an additional ceiling of 250 million lei. The loans will have a reduced interest rate and a repayment period of 1-10 years, with a 12-month grace period. Although this loan provides a temporary solution for the financial problems of the heating system in Bucharest, which is facing debts and outdated infrastructure, it does not solve the long-term structural issues. Bujduveanu promised that the money will be transferred quickly to Termoenergetica to avoid interruptions in the supply of heating during the cold season.
