John Ratcliffe, the CIA director, proposed a trilateral meeting between President Donald Trump, Russian leader Vladimir Putin, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, in an attempt to end the war, during his visit to Moscow, according to Axios cited by News.ro

This was Ratcliffe's first direct involvement in diplomatic mediation efforts between Russia and Ukraine.

The visit included meetings with the heads of Russian intelligence services, and American officials informed Zelensky about the discussions held.

During the meeting, Ratcliffe presented an assessment of the situation and emphasized the need to resume peace negotiations. However, Ukrainian officials remain skeptical regarding Putin's intentions, having information about a possible escalation of the conflict, according to HotNews.

Previous negotiations have been suspended, but Zelensky's chief of staff, Kirilo Budanov, announced to local media on Thursday that discussions with Russia, mediated by the U.S., could be resumed in September.
