Romania won the gold medal in the mixed eight plus one event at the World Rowing Championships in Amsterdam on Sunday.

The Romanian team, consisting of Cristina Drugă, Amalia Chelaru, Adriana Adam, Florin Lehaci, Cosmin Iulian Pleșescu, Ciprian Tudosă, Ștefan Berariu, Simona Radiș and Victoria Petreanu, finished the race with a time of 05:35.75, surpassing the teams from the Netherlands (05:38.42) and the USA (05:38.61).

Adriana Adam and Simona Radiș achieved a remarkable performance, each winning three gold medals at this competition, including in the women's eight plus one and women's double sculls events, a first in the history of the World Championships. Romania finished the competition in fourth place in the medal standings, with a total of three gold medals, being surpassed by the Netherlands, Germany, and the United States.

At the previous edition in Shanghai, Romania won six medals, including two gold.
