Olympic champion Simona Radiș is asking the National Sports Agency to pay the outstanding awards for medals won by Romanian athletes over the past two years. The rower says athletes have not received their rewards for international performances in 2025 and 2026 and states that this money is essential for their livelihood.

“Elite athletes who won international medals over these past two years have not been paid. The state is behind on the awards,” Simona Radiș said, as quoted by Digi Sport. She called on the authorities to find solutions and criticized the justification that there are no funds to pay the athletes.

Radiș has thus joined the athletes who have spoken about the financial situation in Romanian sport, including David Popovici, Bernadette Szocs and Mihaela Cambei.

The rower won three gold medals at the World Championships in Amsterdam this year. Adriana Adam achieved the same feat, and the two became the first athletes in the history of the World Rowing Championships to win three titles at the same edition.
