Former Prime Minister Victor Ponta and former President Traian Băsescu, usually opponents, have issued a joint alarm regarding Ukraine's attacks on oil tankers from Kazakhstan, which affect Romania's economy. Ponta emphasized that these actions by Ukraine are unfair towards an ally and that Romania depends on oil from Kazakhstan, and blocking it will have serious consequences for the national budget. He criticized the slowness of Romanian authorities in reacting to this situation. Băsescu added that Ukraine is causing huge damage to Romania and Europe by blocking the supply of oil, highlighting the importance of the Novorossiisk terminal for oil supply. Both leaders called for a firm response from Romanian authorities to protect national interests.
